I (Brian Quinlisk) have always considered doing a bodybuilding/Physique show but never got up the nerve to do one. After thinking long and hard about it, and having it sit on my “Bucket List” for many years, I decided to enter a show and chose the NPC Infinity Fit Championship held November 12, 2016 at Warren Central HS in Indianapolis, IN.
Preparing for a competition is one of the hardest things I have ever done. It is grueling when it comes to diet and staying focused on the end goal. I dieted for 22 weeks. The last 12 weeks were the hardest because that is when you really start dialing in on your physique and tightening your diet to reach the goal.
It was the first time that I have competed in a show. Participating in a show is very rewarding and completely different then I expected. The competitors showed a tremendous amount of respect toward each other.
I wasn’t anticipating to win or place, so imagine my surprise when I won first place in the Novice division of Classic Physique and 2nd place in the open class of Classic physique for my height and weight class. When I entered the competition, I wanted to feel good about what I had accomplished in the 22 weeks. I feel as if I far exceeded my expectations of the show. Many people compete for years and don’t place that high so I am extremely happy with the end result.
